Screening for a pregnancy complication

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication associated with high blood pressure and effects on other organs. Screening assesses the likelihood of developing it; it does not diagnose current disease or replace routine antenatal checks.

A lower-chance screening result cannot guarantee that preeclampsia will not develop. Continue scheduled antenatal care and seek medical advice for concerns during pregnancy.

Screening is not an assessment of urgent symptoms. If you feel unwell or develop concerning symptoms, contact your maternity service or seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for a screening visit.
